Casino Night at the Stress FactoryThe Greater New Brunswick Rotary Club and the New Brunswick Firefighters held a fantastic Casino Night fundraiser on May 15th at the Stress Factory. Victoria's Tratta Italiano provided the food and everyone brought the fun. Magician Will Fern performed at the event with his amazing Strolling Magic. More than 120 guests attended this event which helped raise valuable funding for the New Brunswick Rotary Foundation and the New Brunswick Firefighters.

Middlesex College Scholarships and ChromebooksAmanda Lyons and Lisa Kelly from the Middlesex College Foundation joined our club meeting today and accepted donation checks from our club to continue our annual scholarships and to sponsor 20 Chromebooks for students. Education and literacy are priorities for the Rotary Club of Greater New Brunswick.

Monthly Lunch MeetingsIn 2024 the Rotary Club of Greater New Brunswick will host two lunch meetings per month. The second Wednesday of each month the club will meet a noon upstairs at Harvest Moon Brewery and Cafe. On the fourth Wednesday of each month the club will host a noon meeting in the private room at Victoria's Tratta Italiano. Guests and interested individuals are encouraged to join us for one free lunch meeting to learn more about Rotary and how to get involved in helping the Greater New Brunswick community. The club is also hosting one monthly social events in the evenings. Please consult our calendar schedule for more events and opportunities.

Yolo Promo Holiday DriveThis year our club co-sponsored Yolo Promo’s (www.yolopromo.com) Holiday Drive along with State Theatre New Jersey (www.stnj.org). With donation bins set up strategically throughout Piscataway, South Plainfield, and New Brunswick over 300 toys/books/coats/other stuff was collected and delivered to organizations that directly help the needy of Middlesex County. A very special thank you to call who donated! You all have a hand in bringing a smile to someone’s face this holiday season! |

2023 Cozzens Lane CleanupThis years’ 2023 Cozzens Lane Cleanup or “The Shaw’s Cleanup” on December 2nd was another successful endeavor leaving Cozzens Lane in North Brunswick looking cleaner than ever. Our club president, Geoff Dietzel, along with Steve Ferrara, assisted the Rutgers University’s Rotaract Club with the removal and cleanup of debris that’s accumulated over the year – providing a great service while setting an fantastic example for the people of North Brunswick.

2023 NB Winter WonderlandOn December 1st, 2023 our club President Geoff Dietzel along with members Mike D’Angola and Barry Rubin attended New Brunswick’s Annual Winter Wonderland. With the help of our friends with Elijah’s Promise, our club donated and distributed hundreds of cookies to the children that performed at the event. It was wet and cold, but everyone’s hearts were warmed by the holiday cheer and atmosphere.

Joe Nastus declared District Governor Nominee-DesignateWOW!! Congratulations to our very own!! As of November 20, 2023, Joe Nastus, is declared as District Governor Nominee-Designate. No challenges were presented. In accordance with the Manual of Procedure for RI District 7475, all members of the Nominating Committee were past club presidents and representatives of the six regions. None of the members had a candidate from their club. Members of the Nominating Committee were Sally Goodson, Wallkill Valley, Susan Lubalin, The Caldwells, Rick Rafferty, Denville, Aaron Mansbach, Edison, Gerry Russell, Roselle-Roselle Park, and Wayne Zuhl, Fanwood-Scotch Plains. PDG Brad Jenkins and PDG Ray Freaney, served as chairs for the Nominating Committee. Joe has been with a Rotarian for 27 years and has been a member of our Rotary Club of Greater New Brunswick since 2008, serving as President 2018-2019. He has consistently served as an outstanding example of what it means to be a Rotarian through his involvement in the Rutgers Rotaract and organizing donations to New Brunswick’s Food Bank. Joe was the District 7475 Fundraising Subcommittee Chair 2021-2011 and currently serves as the Assistant Governor 2019-2021 and 2023-2024. Please join us in congratulating Joe. Rotary ScholarsMiddlesex College hosted the annual celebration of scholarship recipients and donors on Nov. 16th. Our club is proud of our long standing commitment to education and literacy. We have provided scholarships to local high school graduating seniors and Veterans annually for the past 25 years.

Paul Harris Rotary Dinner - June 2023The community of members and friends of the Rotary Club of Greater New Brunswick gathered at the Elks Lodge on June 29, 2023 to recognize the accomplishments over the past twelve months and look forward with anticipation to new leadership in the coming year. All present expressed their gratitude to outgoing President Stephen Ferrara and welcomed the enthusiastic remarks of Geoffrey Dietzel who will lead the club in 2023/2024. The occasion marked the annual installation and oath ceremony of officers and board of directors, conducted that evening by Andrew Calamaras, Rotary Foundation Committee Chair. There were other highlights of the annual dinner meeting celebration. There was a moment honoring the passing of Frank Gschossmann when his wife Barbara received remarks of his club service by members and a certificate of appreciation. Sharan Jain recognized the leadership of Yuvaraaj Murthy, the outgoing president of the Rutgers Rotaract Club, and the incoming president Zaniyah Boykins. Both students were awarded Rotary Scholarships while they attended Middlesex College before enrolling at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Finally, there was formal action when club members ratified a proposal for the adoption of new by-laws approved earlier in June by the board of directors. |

Highland Park Superintendent Joins RCNBDr. Kristina Nicosia, Superintendent of the Highland Park School District, became a member of the Rotary Club of Greater New Brunswick at an induction ceremony that was held on January 11, 2023 during the luncheon meeting at the Harvest Moon Brewery/Cafe Restaurant in New Brunswick. Dr. Nicosia previously taught high school and middle school science and served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for STEM for the Highland Park Public School District. She completed her doctoral studies at Rutgers University in the specialty of science education and statewide community of practice. The club is delighted to have Dr. Nicosia bringing her leadership and community service skills to help advance the mission of the Rotary Club of Greater New Brunswick. |

Rotary Literacy Campaign 2023The Greater New Brunswick Rotary is currently seeking help from the local community for our annual Literacy Campaign. We are seeking help in the form of sponsorships for each of our local thirteen elementary schools. Annually we plan to provide one Dewey Does book titled "I Am Your Lil Super Hero" and one Special Rotary Dictionary for each local third grader. Provided we receive enough sponsorships and funding, we plan to include every third grade class in thirteen schools in three local school districts! In addition to the traditional uses, the students dictionary includes additional resources that are utilized by the teachers throughout the school year to help deliver geography, history, math and science lessons. Dewey Does Author Thomas Kinslow, Laurie Lazovick and Mike D'Angola are organizing presentations at each school. Sponsoring individuals and corporations are invited to join and share in this experience. Please contact Thomas who is working on the schedules if you wish to be a part of this remarkable program this year. We will offer dates for when the third graders will assemble, and the Dewey Does books and Rotary Special Dictionaries will be distributed at each school. Our club is appealing for your support in the form of donations of $250 for each school. Teams of 10 are now forming for this event that will help raise awareness and funding for our local food pantries. Each team is collecting donations of food and money and selecting one local food pantry to help support. Teams can select five to seven Restaurants and or Pubs in New Brunswick to visit on the evening. Literacy ProjectsThe New Brunswick Rotary Club is currently seeking donors for two of our Literacy Projects. We annually provide dictionaries to every 3rd grader in New Brunswick, North Brunswick and Highland Park. We are also working with the Hub Teen Center and New Brunswick Public Library to provide free books and a new Little Free Library at 411 Joyce Kilmer Avenue in New Brunswick. Will Fern Magic Show was a HitThe International Champion of Strolling Magic Will Fern performed for our club on Friday, October 25th at the Imperia. Will was absolutely amazing and everyone truly enjoyed themselves. This event featured a basket raffle and magic hat contest and helped raise money for the New Brunswick Rotary Foundation projects.

Middlesex County Scholarship ProgramThe Rotary Club of New Brunswick is very proud of our annual scholarship program. During the past twenty years our club has hosted an annual golf event on the second Tuesday in May that raises money to provided scholarships. To date we have raised enough money to provide more than $475,000 in scholarships for graduating Seniors from New Brunswick, North Brunswick and Highland Park High Schools. Beginning in 2019, Middlesex County College will now serve as our partner for the scholarship program. MCC President Mark McCormick (seated in the middle with members of the club surrounding him) and his team will help select four scholars annually and award them each with a full scholarship for two years and four semesters to complete their Associates Degree. |

Golfers enjoyed a beautiful spring day in the picturesque and rolling hills setting with breathtaking views of the golf course from the patio of the banquet facility. The Club has raised over $350,000 in the past golf outings. All proceeds are used to provide scholarships to graduates of New Brunswick, North Brunswick and Highland Park High Schools who enroll in college. Spring Cleanup 2017The Rotary Club of New Brunswick Adopt a Road Cleanup on Cozzens Lane in North Brunswick took place during the morning of April 8, 2017. Rotary club members and eight Rotaract students bonded together during the 2 ½ hours that were spent picking up the trash. By the end of the morning the Rotaract students eagerly went with Steve Shaw’s to WAWA for a cup of coffee. |

Rags to RunwayThe Rotary Club of New Brunswick is hosting Rags to Runway – local fashion design students will take "rags" from thrift shop purchases and recreate them into fashions for the "runway". Proceeds benefit the New Brunswick Rotary Foundation and Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey! Join us on March 2, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the George Street Playhouse for the pre-show reception with fare from local restaurants including Due Mari, Panico’s, Chapati House and Evelyn's Restaurant. Then, enjoy an evening of fashion and dance performances, with Bert Baron of 1450 WCTC serving as Emcee. |

Club Meeting - December 8, 2016Pam Stefanek from New Brunswick City Market was the first speaker. This organization is the management company for the New Brunswick Special Interest District. She gave an update on the plans, events, and activities that are and will be taking place in New Brunswick. In addition, she mentioned that our club can post activities on the organization’s Calendar of Events. The second speaker was Adam F. Staats, Senior Project Coordinator of the Price Family Fellows Program. This is a transition program for youth who age out of foster care and attend Rutgers University. They need support in transitioning to adulthood and college. They are provided with internships, help with financial aid, and housing. There are internships and summer programs for them. |

Murder Mystery Event 2016The Rotary Club of New Brunswick hosted its largest Murder Mystery Event to date on Friday, November 4th with 148 guests and Rotarians in attendance. With all of the drama in this year's presidential election, the committee decided to feature yet another political debate as the theme. "The Final Debate" featured Harold Dormp vs Vivienne Blimpton at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick. A local group of professional actors from CoLAB arts, provided the script, actors and entertainment. |

Dr. Michael Norris gave a slide presentation of George Washington through the work of artists at the Thursday, September 8 evening meeting of the Rotary Club of New Brunswick. Using paintings from various museum collections, Mike described the legacy of Washington as a surveyor, member of the Virginia militia, tobacco farmer near the Potomac River at Mount Vernon, and commander of the colonial forces against the British that achieved American independence. Through portraits by past and modern painters, Washington was illustrated as the “indispensable man” whose leadership and presidency set the model for future generations. Mike Norris worked as museum educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for nearly twenty years and now gives public lectures on a variety of topics. His website is www.armchairarttours.com. |

Johan gave a very interesting and informative presentation on Trade Agreements particularly on the Agreements now under discussions- Trans Pacific and Trans Atlantic. We will soon put his slides on our web site for all members information.
The updates were given on current projects and the Club Goals.

Club Meeting - July 7, 2016Our Club had its first meeting of the new year 2016-17 on the evening of July 7, 2016.
Our Treasurer for this year was duly installed and we also inducted three new members.
Sharan Jain gave an update on the changes in RI constitution approved recently by the Council on Legislation.
Sharan Jain also emphasized the need for all members to log into the Members section of the club web site and check their personal data and confirm that to Roz.

Rotary Club of New Brunswick Street Cleanup ProjectSteve Shaw the committee chairperson of the North Brunswick Street Cleanup had made arrangements with Lou Ann Benson, Parks and Recreation Director to once again have the Rotary club participate in the semi annual two mile long street cleanup on busy Cozzens Lane in North Brunswick. This event has been taking place during the last 3 years.

Golf Outing for Scholarships FundOur Club hosted its 20th Annual Scholarship Golf Event on May 10, 2016 at Rutgers Golf Course beginning at 8:30am and an awards luncheon at Panico's Italian Restaurant in downtown New Brunswick.
The golf event included 100 golfers competing for the top prize along with multiple other prizes featuring a putting contest, long drive contest, and hole in one contests for a BMW from Open Road BMW and a Camaro from Malouf Auto Group.
