Paul Harris Rotary Dinner - June 2023The community of members and friends of the Rotary Club of Greater New Brunswick gathered at the Elks Lodge on June 29, 2023 to recognize the accomplishments over the past twelve months and look forward with anticipation to new leadership in the coming year. All present expressed their gratitude to outgoing President Stephen Ferrara and welcomed the enthusiastic remarks of Geoffrey Dietzel who will lead the club in 2023/2024. The occasion marked the annual installation and oath ceremony of officers and board of directors, conducted that evening by Andrew Calamaras, Rotary Foundation Committee Chair. There were other highlights of the annual dinner meeting celebration. There was a moment honoring the passing of Frank Gschossmann when his wife Barbara received remarks of his club service by members and a certificate of appreciation. Sharan Jain recognized the leadership of Yuvaraaj Murthy, the outgoing president of the Rutgers Rotaract Club, and the incoming president Zaniyah Boykins. Both students were awarded Rotary Scholarships while they attended Middlesex College before enrolling at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Finally, there was formal action when club members ratified a proposal for the adoption of new by-laws approved earlier in June by the board of directors. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Rotary Dictionary Donation 2022Dear Fellow Members and Friends of Rotary, Please allow me on behalf of our education committee to share some good news! Dictionaries have been ordered and will soon be distributed in-person to all third graders in thirteen schools in our three school districts! Our long-standing and well received educational project will return to meet with third graders and their teachers which was briefly interrupted by Covid-9 protocols. Thomas Kinslow will join Roz Shaw in developing presentations that will include readings from “Dewey-Does” and special comments on the resources available in our dictionaries. Their committee is looking for members and friends of Rotary who will volunteer and participate in the programs at each school. Please contact Roz who is working on the schedules if you wish to be a part of this remarkable program this year. She will offer dates for when the third graders will assemble, and the dictionaries will be distributed at each school. As you are probably aware our district grants no longer apply to this annual dictionary initiative of ours. Therefore, it is also vital to the success of the program that we continue to fundraise and receive generous donations from members and friends each year. Our club is appealing for your support and donations of $250 to cover the cost of $4,230 for the dictionaries. To members who have already offered to donate, please confirm your pledge by sending your check or use the website to transmit payment (via pay pal- noting “dictionary project”). To others still considering support of this wonderful project, please let me know if you wish to donate $250 or more, and you would like to serve as a school sponsor with your name. To all, on behalf of the Club Board, I wish to express my enthusiastic appreciation and thanks! Stephen |

Dr. Michael Norris gave a slide presentation of George Washington through the work of artists at the Thursday, September 8 evening meeting of the Rotary Club of New Brunswick. Using paintings from various museum collections, Mike described the legacy of Washington as a surveyor, member of the Virginia militia, tobacco farmer near the Potomac River at Mount Vernon, and commander of the colonial forces against the British that achieved American independence. Through portraits by past and modern painters, Washington was illustrated as the “indispensable man” whose leadership and presidency set the model for future generations. Mike Norris worked as museum educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for nearly twenty years and now gives public lectures on a variety of topics. His website is www.armchairarttours.com. |
